The other day my sister Tiff and I took Kylee to Trafalga for miniature golfing again. She really loves it, and since we have our City Passes, it's free. While we were doing the outdoor course, we noticed that they had turned on the go-carts for the year. There weren't many people over there, so when we finished golfing we decided to take Kylee over and give it a try. The guy wouldn't let me ride because those cars go like 3 mph and it's super dangerous when you're the only two cars on the track...but that's okay! Kylee was really scared and didn't want to go, but being the great mother that I am, I bribed her with an Arctic Circle kiddie cone (yes, the free kind) to try it. When it was their turn (they were the ONLY car on the track), Tiff strapped her in, and off they went. The first lap, they went so slow I thought maybe their car was running out of gas, but it turned out that Tiff was just scared, too. They got a little faster as they went along. The guy let them go for like 10 minutes because nobody else was there. Kylee thought it was fun. We'll have to take her again sometime when she can ride fast with Daddy and Todd and Tiff can race them.

Disney on Ice
A while back I heard a bunch of radio stations giving away Disney on Ice tickets, so I told Andy I wanted to win some so that we could take Kylee. He made fun of me, and said, "What? You think you can just DECIDE to win tickets on the radio, and then you just will?" Well, pretty much...yep! I spend A LOT of time in my car. There had to be SOME contest I could win. So, I started flipping between stations, and one morning 93.3 was doing a "who has the geekiest husband" contest. All you had to do was call in and tell them something geeky about your husband, and whoever had the best thing would win 4 tickets to Disney on Ice. At first I wasn't going to call. I couldn't think of ANYTHING. (Andy is just not that geeky, apparently.) All these other people were saying things like, "My husband LOVES Star Trek." Or "My husband plays Dungeons and Dragons with his friends every other Friday." Finally, I realized something. I, being the wonderfully loving wife that I am, have been teasing Andy about his blue jeans for like 8 years. They're really not THAT bad, but I just think it's funny that he refuses to ever even TRY a different brand or style. He still wears the kind that are too baggy around his skinny thighs, and then bunch around his shoes at the bottom. (In their more extreme version, you might call these "parachute pants.") I decided it was worth a shot. Sure enough, one phone call later...I had my four tickets!! They were even lower-bowl. Kylee wore her Snow White dress and her "fancy boots" (as she calls them). It was pretty fun, and I told Andy I promise to never make fun of his pants again. :)
Random Art
Kylee is the kind of kid who really likes to do "Projects." She is always cutting something up, coloring, glueing, painting, etc. It drives Andy insane because there are ALWAYS mini scraps of paper, ribbon, and stickers EVERYWHERE. Here are some of her most recent creations:
This was on a Sunday afternoon. She wanted me to watercolor with her, so I painted some flowers. She decided to try to paint flowers like mine. I don't think they turned out too bad!
This one is a poster she made me for Valentine's Day. It even has sparkly sequins.
Lately it's been somewhat warmer outside, so she makes sidewalk chalk murals. One day she drew one that covered more than 1/2 the width of the driveway, then told me, "Mom, when you get your car out of the garage to go to work tomorrow...don't drive on my picture." Yeah, right.
This was another Sunday, about 3 weeks ago. After church we went for a walk, and Kylee started "hunting" rocks. When we got back to our house, she made sure to hunt 6 big ones and 6 little ones so they would each have a "friend." Then she threw them down on the street over and over to break off the clumps of dirt, rubbed them on the grass to make them cleaner, then asked Andy for a bucket of water to wash them all off in. After she set them in the sun to dry, it was time to paint them and put on glitter. She laid out newspaper, brought them all inside, and got out all the necessary materials. At that point we convinced her that painting 1 big and 1 small was PLENTY for right now. When she wasn't looking, Andy put the rest out on the back deck. I'm pretty sure they have "fallen" off into the dirt in the backyard by now, to rejoin their rock-friends.
Here's the finished product. She's actually not bad at painting. She covers the whole rock pretty well. These two are now on display on the kitchen counter. At some point Andy says he'll teach her about "prayer rocks," and they can move into her room.
Free Zoo Day
During the winter, the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake does a FREE day on the last Wednesday of each month. The one in February was the last one for this year, so I made sure that was my day off that week so that I could take Kylee. My sister-in-law came as well, with her three kids. The first thing the kids wanted to do was ride the train. Kylee and Branson wanted to ride together, and they thought it was super fun.
My favorite was the elephants. This one was eating the whole time we were watching, and I thought it was cool how methodical she was. She would stuff one bite in her mouth, reach up for a second bite, then put her head down while she chewed. Then she'd go up again and get two more bites. I'm not sure why they keep their food so high up? It seemed like she could barely reach.
The giraffes are my second favorite, but their house REEKED. Kylee plugged her nose the whole time we were in there, and refused to touch anything. She was appalled that "Branson and Zack are TOUCHING stuff, mom! That's really yucky!" That's my girly girl for ya!

Dance Class
I've been wanting to take Kylee to some kind of dance class because she loves music and she dances around our house all the time. I finally found a Community Education one that was inexpensive, short (just 6 weeks), and best of all...in the evenings, so we could actually go! She loved it.
We bought her a leotard and some leggings, but a bunch of the other girls kept wearing various tutus, so I finally caved and let Kylee wear one of hers as well. I have a video of her final "performance"...so I'll have to post that later.
