The week after school started a tropical storm came through and school got cancelled for a day or two - I can't remember now - it's been cancelled more than it's been in this year! Since it's still 90+ degrees even in a rainstorm, and the water is warm, too, the kids had a super blast running around splashing in all the big puddles. Of course we're really glad our streets have great drainage, because our friend whose neighborhood is just about 1-2 miles away posted this picture of his front yard. Yes, that is an alligator, and No, we would not have let our kids play outside in puddles this size because we KNOW there can be alligators.
Ally went through a phase for a few days where we would tuck her in to her bed and then we'd go to bed hours later and find her sound asleep in ours. At least she didn't wake up Colby!
Kylee still likes to experiment with new hair styles on me, and then she takes a picture so I can see if I like it.
The kid museum put away their blocks and got these new building things with bolts and screws and stuff. Skyler made a wagon, and Kylee made this cool swingset.
Meanwhile, Colby crawled around and ate the pieces.
One morning I woke up to the sound of growling and high-pitched screaming coming from my closet. Heard the following conversation:
Ally: No! Don't eat Elsa! Hurry, we have to go to the hobspital! Ahh!
Skyler's T-Rex: "Rawwrrrr! Raaaawwwrrrr!"
Me: What are you guys doing?
Skyler: "Playing Dino-Barbies."
Notice that their modes of transportation include the Barbie bug and the dumptruck and flatbed. Glad they figured out how to combine boy interests and girl interests to play together!
Colby grew his eye teeth (teeth #s 15 and 16 for him - at 9 months old), and for an entire week while they were trying to pop out, he had poo-splosions. Every. Single. Time. he went down for bed or nap he would wake up like this. He'd be standing there with poo smeared on his face, poo in his hair, poo on his arms and legs - grinning at me with his big toothy smile. We did SOOOO MUCH LAUNDRY! I was so glad when it finally stopped.
In the meantime, we did a lot of this:
The kids wanted Andy to "horsey ride" them up the stairs to bed, but he didn't want to make two trips, so he had them both climb on. It did NOT work out, but they thought it was hilarious.
Kylee's friends came over and made a fort out of pretty much every chair, couch pillow, stool, and blanket we own. They didn't up with much actual space inside, so they were telling Skyler he couldn't come in because it was for "girls only". I told them they had to either let Skyler play or help him build a different fort, so they gave up a couple of their blankets and made him a fort over the kitchen table. He had a blast playing with his trucks in there.
For the eclipse Skyler and Kylee were at school and Andy was at clinicals, so Ally and I made a box camera and watched it in there. It wasn't as cool as I hoped, but Ally thought it was awesome, and when Skyler and Kylee got home from school they thought it was super awesome too.
Colby learned how to pull himself up on the furniture to walk around...
...the little kids made minion jello pudding snacks at the grocery store (while Kylee was at a playdate with her friends).
Ally discovered a love for folding laundry, and she's actually really good at it! She is super meticulous about spreading things out, smoothing the wrinkles, and then folding them up. She doesn't want anyone to help, so she'll sit there for a whole hour folding all her own laundry and putting it into separate piles to put away.
Kylee got new glasses since school has started again - she can NEVER see the board!
