One Week Old

Yesterday I tried a few times to get a good picture of Ally for her one week birthday, but she was not cooperating! She had to either have her binki in, or she would cry. Ah, well. I'll try again in the next few days.

Andy took the kids to church yesterday while Ally and I stayed home. Skyler got to wear his new spring shirt for the first time, and I thought he looked so handsome and grown up. Blue is good color for him. Kylee does such a good job getting herself ready, it's nice that she's so independent. She's also really good at helping and playing with Skyler. Everyone says the transition from 2 kids to 3 is the hardest one, but Kylee is so much older and so helpful that it hasn't been too bad so far. Don't know what we'd do without her!

Ally Kay Costin

Introducing: Ally Kay Costin! She was born on March 16, 2014 at 9:33pm. She weighed 7 lbs, 4 oz. and was 19.5 inches long. I started having wimpy contractions on Sunday in the middle of the night, and by morning they were about 5-6 minutes apart, but they didn't really hurt at all, so I figured they were fake. We went to church and the wimpy contractions continued the whole time. When we got home, they stopped entirely, so I told Andy not to worry about getting his shift for that night covered. Right before he left for work (around 5:15pm), the wimpy contractions started up again. About an hour later I realized that "wimpy" was getting...a bit less "wimpy", and texted Andy that he might need to get someone to cover his shift (he'd been there a whole 15 minutes)! I then called his mom and she drove down to get me while Kylee packed hers and Skyler's things for their sleepover at grandma's. We got to the hospital around 7:30, and Ally was born just two hours later. We're so happy to have her! She was a week early, which I'm happy about because time was dragging!

Since she was born the night before St. Patrick's Day, they gave her a green bow so she wouldn't get pinched. 

Apparently it is really exhausting to be the dad with a new baby. Because you have to do so much, and get up at night, and...oh, wait. Nope. Seriously, though. Andy was able to get a whole week off from work, and it was really nice to have him home. Both times before he had school, work, homework, etc. etc. so I was on my own a lot. This time he was able to be helpful!!

 The hospital sent Ally home with this little knitted hat, and I think she looks so cute with it on!

We were a little bit worried about how Skyler would adjust to having a baby home, but it hasn't bothered him at all. He likes to rub her head and look at her. He says, "baby! baby!" over and over. I ask him, "Do you like our baby?" He says, "Mmmm-hmmm!" 

A couple of times now I've caught him in our room, standing on his tip-toes and peeking at her. When he sees that I've caught him he says, "Wook! Baby!" He hasn't seemed to get over the fact that she's here to stay.

A New Hat

After we got haircuts yesterday we went to Walmart to pick up some shelves I had ordered online, and get a new crib mattress since we put the old one on the toddler bed. While we were there Skyler found this hat and decided he needed it. I've been meaning to get him a hat anyway because we've been spending a lot of time outside and I'm worried about his head and face getting burned, so I figured if he loved this one enough to wear it all over the store, then he might actually wear it outside as well. He wore it in the car the whole way home, and now he won't go outside without it. Both yesterday and today he wore it the whole time we were playing, which is great! Andy thinks it's kind of white trash, and maybe it is...but hey. He's ONE. If he'll wear the hat without me having to glue it to his head...I don't care if it's white-trashy!

Hair Cut Time!

 We recently decided that it was time for Skyler's first haircut, and then Andy saw that Great Clips had started a $6.99 haircut sale, so yesterday I took him in. His hair is so lightweight and poky-uppy that I wasn't really sure a haircut would make that much of a difference, but it really did. He looks so much more grown up now! Skyler basically sat there like he was completely frozen, drooling sucker goo all down the front of the cape, and the lady got it all nice and handsome-looking for him.

 While we were there I got Kylee's trimmed up too because I realized her ends were really uneven. I told the girl what I wanted her to do, but then I had to go stay with Sky and Kylee did a great job sitting there all by herself, talking to the girl, answering questions, and not acting at all shy. She's getting so grown up!

Skyler Gets a Big Boy Bed

In preparation for our new baby, we got out Kylee's old Elmo bed and set it up for Skyler. When Andy first got it out he played and played and thought it was so fun. That night when it came time to go to bed, though, he got really upset and started throwing all his things back in the empty crib. He even tried to lift up the mattress all by himself. It was so pathetic we decided to let him go back in the crib and try again the next day. On the second day...SUCCESS! He napped on his bed, and slept on his bed as well. He's fallen off a few times, but then he just falls asleep on the floor, and we put him back in bed when we either hear the thump, or when we check on him and find him on the ground. Overall, it's been a pretty smooth transition.
