On Friday night after Weeki Wachee we went back home. On Saturday Andy was finally able to hang out with us because he had the day off from clinicals. We went to the Shell Factory in Ft. Myers, and they had a nature preserve (basically a zoo). Part of it was a petting zoo where the kids could touch the animals, but Ally was the only one who wanted to do so. The other kids maybe take after me and realize that touching animals is soooo gross.
In one place they had this aviary where you could go inside and animals were just roaming free. There were a couple of these big iguanas...
And a couple of really pretty peacocks...
...about a gazillion turtles (and fish), which we fed with their cups of food that were super inexpensive...
...a humongous tortoise, which scared the heck out of Ally when her back was turned and he walked up right behind her, and then I said, "Oops, Al, watch out, the turtle wants to get by." She turned around and jumped about 3 feet in the air. This guy was as big as she is!
This little green bird followed Bruce around the WHOLE time we were in there. Like he landed on his shoulder and wouldn't get off until one of the keeper ladies came and got him and put him on a tree branch, but then after that he came down from the tree and ran around Bruce's feet the entire time he was walking around, and then when we were leaving he tried to follow him out. It was so crazy!
After the nature preserve we had tickets for miniature golf there, but on the way over the kids wanted to climb up this wall. Well, Ally and Kylee did, anyway. You could climb up to the top, climb over, and climb down the other side. Ally kept wanting to go over, but since Andy couldn't reach that high he kept making her come back down the same side, and she was really disappointed. She is too brave!
I tried to help Skyler climb up the wall and he didn't want to have anything to do with it. After Ally and Kylee had done it several times he finally started climbing on his own and then said "Mom! Look! I'm almost to the top! Take my picture!" So I did. But just as a frame of reference, that's my stroller you can see on the far right of the wall. He climbed up about as high as the handle (so like...2.5 feet?) and then came back down. He was nowhere near the top. But I'm glad he faced his fear and at least attempted it!
Kylee went up and over the top a bunch of times. She was super fast.
After golfing we went into the little shops/museums they have inside for a few minutes. Kylee was the only one brave enough to stick her head inside this shark's mouth for a picture.
Skyler and Ally rode a fake dinosaur.
On Sunday night we went to the beach to watch the sunset. It was a little chilly, but so pretty, as always. We really need to do this more often while we're here.
